about

From the original blurb I included with my submission in the contest:

I've loved and been fascinated with Steve Reich's music for nearly 30 years. I find the early "phase music" pieces of the 60's and 70's especially attractive....pure audible musical form. For this piece I assembled a 6-beat loop from different harmonies throughout 2X5 and plugged it into the form for Reich's 1967 piece "Piano Phase”.

("Phasing" in this case means playing 2 repeating loops of the same music, except that one of the loops is BARELY faster than the other. The loops gradually go out of phase with each other and form several interesting musical combinations as they progress through sections where they are 1, 2, 3.... 16th notes apart. Eventually, the 2 loops are back in sync with each other when they are 12 16th notes apart and the piece ends.)
